Rangiroa is better known for its water than it is for its beaches, though white sandbars and secluded motus are prevalent.

Rangiroa offers some of the best dives sites in the world at the Tiputa Pass. Drift scuba diving and snorkeling here will get you up close to large manta rays, sea turtles, and playful bottlenose dolphins. Le Lagon Bleu (or the Blue Lagoon) is the island’s unique aquatic feature, with shallow and bright water that is perfect for swimming and spotting colorful fish and large lemon sharks. The main villages, Avatoru and Tiputa offer unique vistas of the South Pacific, so stop at one of the small towns for dinner and a drink.
