Activities & Attractions
Activities
Though Johannesburg is usually considered a starting point for travelers on their way to Cape Town or a safari tour, there is still much to experience in this bustling city. Visiting Nelson Mandela’s home and the Apartheid Museum are both excellent ways to explore the country’s heavy and moving ties to the past. For history buffs, the nearby World-Heritage-protected Cradle of Humankind has some of the world’s oldest human fossils. Johannesburg’s cultural heart, Newtown, is a lively district filled with jazz bars, museums, theatres, and great restaurants.
