French and Tahitian are the main languages of The French Polynesian islands, but English is widely understood.
Currency and Tipping
The French Polynesia franc is the official currency of the islands, but some resorts accept US dollars.
Climate & Beaches
Climate
The Islands of Tahiti enjoy year-round tropical weather. Dry season runs between May to October and has average temperatures of 82 degrees Fahrenheit. November through April is the wet season, with average temperatures of 86 degrees F and occasional showers.
Beaches
Bora Bora has thin stretches of soft, white sand beaches that are dotted with coconut palms and sit on beautiful, bright waters. Matira Beach is close to scenic hiking trails and silky-smooth white sand. There are also a number of secluded beaches worth exploring along the island, though they are often thin and not very wide.
Activities & Attractions
Activities
Bora Bora is situated on a colorful coral reef, so water activities are the best way to experience the island. Try a glass-bottom boat tour, kayak or swim through the water to catch a glimpse of the (friendly!) reef sharks, turtles and colorful fish. Scuba diving and snorkeling are also great ways to experience the stunning turquoise lagoons, and kite surfing is a popular excursion due to the perfect trade winds.
Nightlife
After a day relaxing on the water, be sure to visit one of the specialty pearl shops and dine at one of the many fine French restaurants.
