Language
The Bahamas is a developed, English-speaking nation, although you might hear Bahamian English. It’s a mixture of Queen’s diction, African influence and island dialect. The “h” is often dropped, so it sounds like “ouse” for “house” or “t’anks” for “thanks.”
Currency and Tipping
The official currency is the Bahamian dollar.
Climate & Beaches
Climate
The island has a semi-tropical climate with only two seasons, summer (May–November) and winter (December–April). Midsummer temperatures range from 80-85F with a relative humidity of 60 to 100 percent. Winter temperatures range from 70-75F and can drop to 41F after dark.
Beaches
There are many coconut-tree-lined beaches with soft white sand in Andros. Try Lighthouse Beach to be near the Andros Yacht Club and Marina, with plenty of water sports. Small Hope Bay Beach is a great option for the lazy-day, hammock enthusiasts.
Activities & Attractions
Activities
With massive wetlands and a large, colorful reef, there's no shortage of outdoor activities in Andros. Appreciate the variety of marine life by snorkeling or fishing, which are by far the most popular island activities. If you'd prefer to stay on dry land, Andros has charming towns, ruins, spas and plenty of shopping.
Nightlife
Many of Andros' hotels and resorts have nightclubs and bars, which will keep you busy when the sun goes down. The lively establishments often have live bands, DJs and dancing on the weekends.
